We have been counting down the days for Ti West to return to writing and filmmaking. After giving us instant classic after instant classic genre films like The House of the Devil, The Innskeepers and The Sacrament, he sort of disappeared into the world of TV. However, good news, y’all! West is back with X – a film that is being produced by A24 and Bron.
In X a team of porno filmmakers head out to a ranch to make their masterpiece. Little do they know that the folks that they are renting the ranch room from are a little bit out of their gourds. As their porn progresses on, so does the bloody carnage. West seems to be unleashing some very welcome hag horror into a classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre backing.
The official synopsis for X goes like this:
In 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast find themselves fighting for their lives.
Now, the film has a hard R rating and it seems to have earned that damn rating with an emphasis on the “strong bloody violence and gore” part.
West has is getting back to writing and directing and we are a thousand percent behind this. All of his work in the past was phenomenal. For some reason, West stepped away from writing and directing his own stuff. It wasn’t that he wasn’t working, he had gone over to television and started working on different series. His last written and directed work came form the revenge western picture, In the Valley of Violence. The film starred Ethan Hawke and John Travolta and marked West’s largest production to date. It was really strange to watch him step away from that for a good six years.
In any case West is back and then some. The trailer for X speaks for itself in every single way. It screams that West is back on point with his writing and directing as though he never skipped a beat.
The film stars Brittany Snow, Mia Goth, Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, and Jenna Ortega.
X arrives in theaters beginning March 18.
